Foreign Minister Leads Oman Delegation To UN Future Summit

New York: In accordance with the sovereign decree of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the esteemed Foreign Minister of Oman, Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi, spearheaded the delegation from the Sultanate to the Summit of the Future, which was convened at the United Nations headquarters in New York during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

During his address at the summit, Sayyid Badr reiterated Oman's unwavering dedication to the principles of multilateralism and international collaboration as the foundational pillars for realizing the collective aspirations of the Summit of the Future. He emphasized that dialogue, pragmatism, and mutual respect constitute the bedrock of Oman's foreign policy, underscoring their critical importance in tackling the complex and interconnected global challenges that the world currently faces.

In a distinguished segment titled “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,” Sayyid Badr spotlighted the critical importance of inclusive dialogue platforms, such as the United Nations, in fostering these values. However, he also highlighted the persisting challenges, notably the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which underscores the precarious nature of the regional and international landscape. He explained that the escalation of violence, the suffering of civilians, and the failure of peace initiatives pose a significant threat to the principles of multilateralism and the rule of law. He underscored the need to learn from historical mistakes and understand the complexities of the present, particularly in relation to the Palestinian issue, in order to achieve sustainable peace.

The Foreign Minister underscored the necessity to transcend Cold War-era ideologies, which perpetuate binary divisions and are rooted in zero-sum thinking. He elaborated that the effectiveness of international institutions in resolving conflicts is contingent upon adopting a more open and pragmatic approach, one that is attuned to the realities of today's multipolar world.

Sayyid Badr maintained that the resolution of Middle Eastern conflicts will remain elusive without the establishment of channels for dialogue and communication with all parties, including those who have been labeled as “enemies” by some members of the international community. He further emphasized that a sustainable solution can only be realized by addressing the underlying causes of the conflict.

Oman's Foreign Minister highlighted that the persistent violations of international law since the inception of the Zionist project have rendered the region less secure, adding that a just and enduring solution must be premised on the principle of a two-state solution.

Sayyid Badr articulated that in light of the evolving global landscape, it is imperative to reform multilateral frameworks by incorporating a more diverse representation of voices and placing a greater emphasis on justice, international law, and peaceful conflict resolution. He committed that the Sultanate of Oman will persist in its support for initiatives that foster cooperation, trust, understanding, and justice for all.

Furthermore, the Minister underscored the significance of adopting innovative policies aimed at sustainable development, pointing out that the Oman Vision 2040 is in harmony with these objectives. He highlighted the commitment of Oman to empowering the youth as a catalyst for the future's development.

Concluding his address, Sayyid Badr emphasized the critical importance of technology and digital cooperation in tackling environmental, economic, and social challenges. He also stressed the necessity of scientific advancements to enhance the efficiency of environmental resource utilization.
