Empowering Young Omanis Through The Judges Academy

Muscat: The Oman Debate Centre has successfully concluded its third installment of the Judges Academy, with the participation of 30 individuals aged 18 and above from various governorates in Oman.

The primary objective of the Academy is to address the growing demand for judges in both the private and government sectors, which has arisen due to the increasing number of debaters in schools and universities.

Nasser Al Hanai, CEO of the Oman Debate Centre, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by the Centre in fulfilling the objectives outlined in Oman Vision 2040, particularly in the field of education and humanity. The Centre's main focus is to empower young Omanis by providing them with the latest knowledge and techniques in debating, as well as certifying judges to partake in national and international events.

The previous editions of the Judges Academy were also highly successful and made significant contributions to the debate community in Oman. Through collaboration with their partners at the Qatar Debate Centre, the Oman Debate Centre has successfully graduated 100 qualified and registered judges from the first two editions. Consequently, the number of arbitrators associated with the Centre has increased to approximately 150, spanning across the governorates of Oman from Musandam to Dhofar.

A cohort of young individuals has successfully completed a series of specialized workshops with the objective of broadening their knowledge on various debating subjects, including politics, economics, and the philosophy of law.

Shahad Al Qarri, the third participant of the academy, highlighted the significance of comprehending the philosophy of law in order to analyze diverse cases and understand the interconnectedness of the law with all aspects of life.

The program was meticulously designed to equip the participants with the essential skills required to become well-informed and effective debaters. Additionally, it aimed to foster critical thinking and active engagement within their respective communities.

The efforts of the Centre will contribute towards meeting the growing demand for qualified arbitrators in both the private and government sectors of the country.
