The 'fabulous five' proudly exited the venue with confidence and joy, symbolizing the successful completion of their six-month journey as part of the 'GIFTed' program.
Developed by Omran Group in partnership with dusitD2 Naseem Resort in Al Jabal Al Akhdar, this commendable program is designed to enable individuals with disabilities to pursue careers in the tourism and hospitality sector.
The five graduates of the program, namely Ahmed Al Tubi, Ahmed Al Dughari, Fathi Al Amri, Ahmed Al Awimiri, and Mohammed Al Awimiri, were recognized for their achievements in various departments such as laundry, stewarding, concierge, and housekeeping.
The graduation ceremony, which took place at the resort, was graced by distinguished guests including Her Highness Sayyida Hujaija bint Jaifar Al Said, Gilles Cretallaz, COO of Dusit International, and Prateek Kumar, Senior Vice-President of Operations at Dusit Hotels and Resorts.
Representatives from Omran Group and the Al Wafa Centre for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in Al Jabal Al Akhdar also attended the event.
The 'GIFTed' program is dedicated to providing support to individuals with disabilities in the tourism sector, nurturing their talents, and opening doors to practical skills and various job opportunities.
OMRAN's #IAmTourism strategy includes this initiative as a crucial element, aiming to empower local talent to thrive in the tourism sector.
Jagdeep Thakral, General Manager of dusitD2 Naseem Resort and mentor to the graduates, expressed his satisfaction: "I am pleased to announce the graduation of our first group of students from the GIFTed program, tailored for People of Determination. Watching these exceptional individuals complete a challenging yet rewarding six-month journey fills me with pride."
He acknowledged the team effort that led to the program's success: "The dedication of the entire dusitD2 Naseem Resort team was essential for this program's achievements. Their support, from mentoring to personalized training, has been crucial in equipping our graduates with the necessary skills and confidence to excel in the hospitality industry."
Thakral, recognized by the UN for his work in similar initiatives in the Far East, commended the graduates' accomplishments: "Not only did they perform exceptionally well academically, but all five have secured full-time positions at our resort. This reflects their hard work, determination, and the effectiveness of the program."
Looking ahead, Thakral referenced Nelson Mandela's words: “We rise by lifting others.” These words deeply resonate with me. Our journey is ongoing. We are actively preparing to welcome a new group of students into the GIFTed programme, expanding its reach and influence.
Moreover, our goal is to inspire and motivate other hotels within the Omran portfolio to adopt this transformative initiative. By incorporating GIFTed graduates into their teams, these hotels can help create a truly inclusive hospitality environment throughout Oman.
Thakral closed with a vision of inclusivity: “dusitD2 Naseem Resort is honored to lead this movement in Jabal Akhdar. The GIFTed programme goes beyond just upskilling; it highlights the importance of inclusivity and the transformative power within each person. We are dedicated to fostering a diverse and empowered workforce that mirrors the vibrant communities we cater to.”
Building on the success of the initial group, Omran Group will continue to support and develop programs that enhance the tourism sector with skilled national talent, making a positive impact on society and promoting a prosperous and sustainable future for all.
