Education Ministry Signs Pact To Replace 5,000 School Buses In Five Years

Muscat: The Ministry of Education has entered into a partnership with Karwa Motors and the Development Bank to replace 5,000 school buses over a period of five years, from 2024 to 2028, at a rate of 1,000 buses per year.

Majid Said Al Bahri, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Financial Affairs, stated that the Ministry will take necessary actions to implement the school bus replacement program over the next five years, starting with the oldest buses.

Dr. Ibrahim Ali Al Balushi, the CEO of Karwa Motors, expressed that the signing of these two agreements is a significant step towards promoting local manufacturing industry in Oman and providing safe and advanced transportation vehicles.

Under the patronage of Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, the Minister of Economy, the annual meeting of the Tender Board Secretariat General was held. The meeting focused on the accomplishments of 2023, as well as the priorities, initiatives, and plans for 2024.

During the meeting, the Secretariat General of the Tender Board signed a comprehensive framework agreement with Karwa Motors to replace buses with various technical specifications across all government entities, catering to their specific requirements.

The signing of this agreement took place at the annual meeting of the Tender Board in Muscat.

Meanwhile, Eng. Badr Salim Al Maamari, the Secretary General of the Tender Board, highlighted that this framework agreement will address the needs of all government units, including the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology.

Al Maamari further emphasized that the framework agreement aims to expedite response to requests and promote local content.
