The heart and catheterization team at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in the University Medical City successfully conducted groundbreaking procedures to close interatrial hernia (PFO) in the heart using intracardiac imaging (ICE) technology, eliminating the necessity for transesophageal imaging (TEE).
Led by Dr. Fahd Al Kindi, Senior Consultant and Head of the Catheterization Unit, along with Dr. Abdullah Al-Ismaili, cardiologist and catheterization consultant, this innovative approach was carried out without the requirement for deep or complete anesthesia.
Thanks to this exceptional method, patients were able to be discharged from the hospital on the same day or the day following the procedure.
