Muscat: The Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing Forum took place on Monday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre as part of the "COMEX 2025" exhibition, highlighting the latest advancements in AI and quantum computing, and solidifying Oman's role in the global digital economy.
The forum was officially opened by Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology.
At the event, three national initiatives were introduced under the National Programme for AI and Advanced Technologies. The first initiative is the Omani Linguistic Model, "Mueen," which is an ambitious endeavor aimed at creating an advanced linguistic AI model that embodies the distinctive features of the Omani language and culture. This initiative seeks to assist government institutions with intelligent linguistic applications and to establish a digital knowledge infrastructure that benefits various essential sectors.
The second initiative is the Omani AI Studio, a cutting-edge platform designed to link experts with government, private, and academic entities to create effective solutions for operational issues. This studio will also provide specialized consultations, train and equip students in the latest AI fields, and host workshops and events to promote awareness of the significance of these technologies. Furthermore, it will assist institutions in embracing AI and generating new business prospects.
The third initiative is the National Open Data Portal, which seeks to improve transparency and accountability by providing citizens, researchers, and developers access to government data across various sectors, including health, education, the economy, and the environment. The portal will feature a user-friendly interactive interface and sophisticated analysis tools to encourage innovation and research initiatives.
The forum encompassed multiple sessions and presentations on quantum computing, discussing its "probabilities and risks," as well as the future of AI infrastructure. Additionally, it included a panel discussion focused on the synergy between artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
