US actor Gene Hackman, aged 95, renowned for winning two Academy Awards throughout his extensive career, was discovered deceased on Wednesday afternoon alongside his 63-year-old wife, Betsy Arakawa, at their residence in New Mexico, according to police reports.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office has verified the couple's deaths, indicating that there is no suspicion of foul play. Additionally, it was reported that their dog was also found deceased.
Authorities located the couple at 1:45 AM local time after a request for a welfare check was made.
Hackman earned his first Oscar for Best Actor in 1972 for his portrayal of Detective Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle in "The French Connection," and he received a second Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the 1992 Western "Unforgiven," directed by Clint Eastwood.
Born in California in 1940, Hackman falsely stated his age to join the US Marines at the age of 16. After completing his military service, he embarked on a successful acting career, featuring in over 80 films before his retirement in 2004.
