9 Killed, 28 Injured In Wadi Kabir Shooting

MUSCAT: In an extremely unusual event, six individuals, including a police officer, were fatally shot and another one died alongside 28 injured when a group of attackers launched an assault at a mosque in Wadi Kabir, Muscat, on the night of Monday.

Oman News Agency reported that the assault led to the death of three attackers.

The Pakistan Embassy in Oman confirmed that its citizens lost their lives in the attack at the mosque.

The deceased have been named as Ghulam Abbas, Hasan Abbas, Sayyed Qaisar Abbas, and Sulaiman Nawaz, as reported by the Pakistan Embassy in Oman.

In a declaration, Oman News Agency mentioned, “The Royal Oman Police (ROP) and the armed forces and security agencies have concluded the investigation into the shooting incident that took place in the Wadi Al Kabir region of Muscat Governorate on Monday.”

The event led to the fatalities of six individuals, the heroic death of a police officer, and the demise of three attackers, alongside injuring 28 people from various countries.

Among the injured, there were four emergency service personnel, including those from the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority, who were on duty. These individuals have been hospitalized for medical treatment.

The full details of the incident are still under investigation, according to Oman News Agency.

ROP expresses heartfelt condolences and sorrow for the families who have lost loved ones, hoping for a quick healing process for those injured.

Additionally, ROP acknowledges and thanks the combined efforts and collaboration of both citizens and residents for helping to manage the crisis effectively.

ROP emphasizes the importance of relying on official information and avoiding misinformation from unverified sources.

The US embassy in Muscat declared a security warning in response to the shooting and suspended all visa appointments for the day. "US individuals are advised to stay alert, keep up with local news, and follow instructions provided by the local government," was the message on the embassy's Twitter page.
