Ibri: The Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources within Al Dhahirah Governorate has successfully completed the maintenance of 20 falajs as part of a broader initiative aimed at preserving 100 falajs across the wilayats of Ibri, Yanqul, and Dhank. This project, which cost OMR 848,000, aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources' commitment to the conservation of water resources within the Sultanate of Oman.
Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources Director General, Salim bin Ali Al Amrani, highlighted that the maintenance of these falajs was necessitated by the adverse weather conditions affecting the water channels within the governorate. He emphasized the Directorate General's dedication to the upkeep of these falajs, underscoring their significance as a vital water resource for agricultural irrigation.
Mr. Al Amrani further stated that the Directorate General has completed the maintenance of 20 falajs as part of its ongoing plan, with further work scheduled for the maintenance of an additional 80 falajs.
Abdullah bin Hamad Al Jassasi, who is overseeing the falajs in Al Mabouth and Al Mafjour wilayats within the Ibri governorate, highlighted the multifaceted role of these falajs. He noted that they not only provide drinking water to villages but also support irrigation efforts, thereby playing a crucial role in sustaining agricultural activities within the governorate.
It is important to note that the total number of falajs within the governorate stands at 560.
