A Coruña: On Sunday, the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) convened a ceremony in the city of A Coruña, Spain, to recognize the recipients of the 12th edition of the 'Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing'.
The British vessel, Excelsior, emerged victorious in the Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing 2024, commended for its pioneering efforts in establishing global standards of camaraderie and facilitating a program aimed at exchanging expertise in sail training, which has benefited individuals aged 15 to 26 years.
Excelsior's approach to sail training offers a distinctive blend of theoretical instruction and practical application, thereby providing ample opportunities for participants to acquire essential skills and develop their leadership abilities.
The event was graced by the presence of Omar bin Said Al Kathiri, the Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York, Commodore Ali bin Mohammed Al Hosni, the Commander of the Said bin Sultan Naval Base, RNO officers, the Head of Sail Training International (STI) association, and individuals and entities with an interest in the sailing sector.
The Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing stands as a distinguished international accolade, championing the ideals of peace and mutual understanding.
This award not only celebrates Oman's rich maritime heritage but also underscores the pivotal role of sailors in fostering cultural connections between the Sultanate of Oman and nations worldwide.
