Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall Expected In Parts Of Oman

Muscat: The Oman Meteorology Department has issued a weather warning forecasting significant rainfall across several governorates on Thursday, December 26, 2024.

Coastal regions of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Muscat are expected to receive between 15-35 mm of rain, while Musandam, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiya, and South Al Sharqiya may see 5-15 mm.

The anticipated impacts outlined by Oman Meteorology include:

1. Intense thundershowers accompanied by hail, which could lead to flash flooding in Wadis.

2. Strong downdraft winds with speeds ranging from 15-35 knots (28-64 km/h).

3. Increased sea conditions along the coasts of Musandam and the Oman Sea, with wave heights of 1.5 to 2.5 meters.

4. Decreased horizontal visibility during periods of thundershowers.

The public is advised to take the following precautions:

- Refrain from crossing Wadis due to the risk of flash floods.

- Steer clear of low-lying areas.

- Avoid sailing during the alert period.

- Implement necessary safety measures during thundershowers.
