The UNESCO Chair for Aflaj Studies at the University of Nizwa in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate conducted a series of research projects to identify common challenges encountered by aflaj in Oman and proposed solutions to overcome them.
It was highlighted in the studies that there is a pressing need to enhance programs and initiatives aimed at mitigating the adverse effects on the falaj system in the country.
Dr. Abdullah Saif Al Ghafri, who serves as the Professor of the UNESCO Chair for Aflaj Studies at the University of Nizwa, mentioned that the Chair recently released findings from its most recent studies, which integrated field data, smart technologies, and innovative theories.
He further explained that the obstacles faced by different projects varied, with some encountering logistical hurdles, while others struggled with financial or administrative issues.
