Muscat: In collaboration with the National Survey Authority (NSA) for geospatial information and Google, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has initiated the first phase of a virtual tour project in the Sultanate of Oman.

The launch event was held under the patronage of Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Zaabi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence.

This service aims to provide users globally with the opportunity to discover Oman’s stunning natural landscapes, historical sites, and modern infrastructure through an immersive virtual experience.

The occasion highlighted the importance of this service in bolstering Oman's digital footprint and its potential benefits for various sectors, including tourism and business development. Attendees were given a preview of the virtual experience, which showcased several of Oman’s landmarks and natural attractions. The discussion also focused on the upcoming second phase of the project, which plans to broaden the service's coverage to include additional sites and landmarks by 2025.

The initial phase features a curated selection of locations, such as Khor Rori, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Virtual Trekkers captured images across an area of approximately 36,000 square kilometers.

The introduction of this service reflects Oman’s commitment to fostering innovation and improving digital accessibility. It reinforces Oman’s reputation as a tourist destination rich in cultural and natural diversity, marking a significant milestone in enhancing the country's digital presence and inviting the world to explore its remarkable offerings.
