India, Kuwait Discuss Important Bilateral Developments, Matters For Diaspora Welfare

Kuwait City: The Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaika, met with Fahad Yousef Saud AlSabah, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Kuwait, to discuss the diaspora and bilateral development, according to the Indian Embassy in Kuwait on Thursday.

In a message on X, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait stated that Ambassador Adarsh Swaika informed the Deputy Prime Minister of important aspects regarding bilateral development between India and Kuwait.

During the meeting, Ambassador Swaika addressed concerns pertaining to the Indian diaspora's welfare in Kuwait.

The Embassy posted on X that Amb @AdarshSwaika1 called on Dy PM & Minister of Interior H. E Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud AlSabah. The Ambassador briefed him on significant bilateral developments and conveyed concerns about the welfare of the Indian Diaspora in Kuwait.

Earlier on Wednesday, Ambassador Swaika met with Aziz AlDehani, the Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs.

The Indian Embassy stated that talks focused on bilateral consular and labor concerns.

During his attendance at the 9th OPEC International Seminar in Vienna, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Puri met with Tareq Sulaiman AlRoumi, Kuwait's Minister of Oil and Chairman of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.

Kuwait is currently the sixth-largest supplier of crude oil, the fourth-largest provider of LPG, and India's eighth-largest hydrocarbon trade partner.

The series of high-level interactions follows the all-party delegation, headed by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, participating in a number of events as part of India's diplomatic effort in Operation Sindoor.

Former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, a member of India's multiparty delegation to Kuwait, characterised the group's interactions as wide-ranging and impactful.

Kuwait has vehemently condemned the assault in Pahalgam. Kuwait has a very firm stance against terrorism. India and Kuwait have a joint working group on security and counterterrorism. Furthermore, Kuwait is an influential member of the Gulf Cooperation on Terrorist Financing and has considerable financial and economic influence in Pakistan. Kuwaiti interlocutors have internalised and acknowledged the reality that any acts of terrorism would result in a strong response from India, with repercussions for the region and beyond.

Bilateral relations between the two nations include regular Foreign Office Consultations and a Joint Ministerial Commission. The MEA emphasized that Kuwait continues to be a dependable supplier of crude oil and LPG for India's energy requirements.

India and Kuwait have friendly relations that have stood the test of time. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has emphasized that the Indian community, which numbers approximately 1 million, is Kuwait's largest expatriate community and is considered the first preference among expatriate communities.
