Summer Rains To Continue: Met

The Oman Met Office has issued a weather alert for Muscat, warning of potential cumulonimbus cloud activity and occasional thunderstorms with strong downward winds and wadi flows over the Hajar Mountains and surrounding areas, extending into the deserts during Thursday afternoon and evening. Rainfall amounts are expected to range from 10 to 45 mm, with the alert in effect from 1pm to 10pm on Thursday.

Yesterday, rainfall was reported in Dakhiliyah and Al Buraimi. Local weather formations are anticipated to persist into today, with afternoon and evening appearances in parts of the Hajar Mountains. The impact is likely to be felt in Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Buraimi, and North Al Sharqiyah Governorates, with occasional thunderstorms and downdraft winds leading to dust disturbances. Downdraft wind speeds are forecasted to be between 15 to 45 knots, potentially affecting horizontal visibility.

The Oman Met Office has issued a general weather forecast indicating that the coast of Dhofar governorate and adjoining mountains will experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with a chance of isolated rain and intermittent drizzle. Meanwhile, most of the other governorates will have clear to partly cloudy skies with medium and high clouds moving in, along with a possibility of light isolated rain over South Al Sharqiya and Al Wusta coast. Additionally, there may be low-level clouds or fog patches in certain coastal areas along the Oman Sea and Arabian Sea.

In the coastal areas of the Oman Sea, winds are forecasted to be easterly to northeasterly light to moderate at times fresh. In contrast, the rest of the governorates will have easterly to southeasterly winds, light to moderate occasionally fresh in desert and open areas, and southerly to southwesterly winds moderate to fresh along the Arabian Sea coasts.

The highest temperature recorded was in Ibri and Buraimi, reaching a high of 47 degrees Celsius and a low of 33 degrees Celsius.
