Muscat: In its ongoing efforts to enhance academic offerings, the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) Council has given the green light to several new academic programs.
During its second meeting for the academic year 2023/2024, chaired by Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the Council approved these programs. SQU Vice-Chancellor, HH Sayyid Fahad Al Julanda Al Said, was also in attendance.
The Council acknowledged the university's progress and the successful implementation of previous decisions and recommendations throughout the academic year.
Among the approved programs are the PhD in Educational Psychology and the PhD in educational assessment programs at the College of Education. These specializations mark the first two doctoral programs of their kind in the Sultanate of Oman. Their primary objective is to produce highly skilled professionals who can support educational institutions and contribute to the advancement of academic research.
The College of Medicine and Health Sciences has received approval from the Council for the MSc programme in clinical physiology, with a specialization in Cardiovascular and Neurology. This programme is specifically aimed at health science graduates and technicians who are currently working in physiological diagnostic units and are looking to enhance their professional skills.
The main objective of this programme is to address the increasing need for professionals in this specialized field within both the public and private health sectors.
Furthermore, the Council has shown its dedication to implementing the university's strategic plan and accomplishing its objectives by closely monitoring the performance indicators set for the current academic year.
