SQU Celebrates International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day 2025

Muscat: The College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) commemorated International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day 2025 at A’Sharqiyah University, with His Excellency Sheikh Mahmoud bin Rashid Al-Saadi, Wali of Al Qabil, serving as the event's patron.

This annual event, organized by the Department of Biomedical Science, seeks to underscore the essential roles of professionals in this field, motivate those involved in biomedical sciences, and enhance public understanding of the discipline.

The celebration also aims to highlight the significance of various biomedical science sectors and elevate awareness among the public regarding the critical functions biomedical scientists perform in disease diagnosis within clinical laboratories.

Even though biomedical laboratory specialists play a crucial role in the healthcare system, their contributions are frequently misunderstood by patients and the general population due to a lack of direct engagement.

The event included an exhibition divided into four key areas. The first section highlighted the academic programs available in biomedical sciences from both public and private universities and colleges, enabling institutions to showcase their educational offerings.

Focusing on the primary branches of biomedical laboratory sciences—Haematology, Histopathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology—the second section allowed staff from each area to interact with visitors through demonstrations of selected diagnostic tests and explanations of their significance.

In the third section, various associations participated, such as the Oman Cancer Association, the Oman Hereditary Blood Disorders Association, and the Oman Transplantation Society, sharing insights into their initiatives and the effects they have on the community.

The fourth part of the exhibition included an engaging student corner, where scientific posters were showcased, and several competitions took place for attendees.

It is important to note that the College of Medicine and Health Sciences first recognized this global event in 2017.
