Social Ministry Celebrates Graduation Of 60 People With Disabilities

Muscat: On Monday, the Ministry of Social Development hosted a ceremony to honor the graduation of 60 individuals with disabilities, marking the completion of the second cohort of a training program under the initiative titled “Be with Us for Them.”

The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, who acknowledged the significant contributions of the private sector, businesses, and government entities that have supported this initiative aimed at creating employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities upon finishing the training.

The program provided training in various areas, including customer service, office management, document printing and copying, as well as electronic archiving.

This initiative also focused on the training and rehabilitation of individuals with mental, motor, and hearing disabilities.

Out of the participants, 21 received their training at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Sohar, located in the North Al Batinah Governorate, while 39 were trained at the Mohammed Al Barwani Training Institute in Al Athaiba, Muscat Governorate.

This initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Social Development and the Specialized Human Development Centre, represents a significant advancement towards achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

The program aims to engage key sectors in Oman to take on social responsibility, empower individuals with disabilities, and leverage innovative human resource strategies.

Launched in September 2022, the initiative has already created 57 direct employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities and provided on-the-job training through the involvement of 13 private sector organizations.

The goal of the initiative is to empower 500 individuals with disabilities by the year 2027.
