Shura Council’s Panel Discusses Behavioural Issues Among Students

Muscat: On Monday, the Education, Research, and Innovation Committee of the Shura Council held a meeting with experts from the Ministry of Education, particularly from the Directorate of Career Guidance and Student Counseling.

The primary focus of the meeting was to tackle behavioral issues among school students and to explore viable solutions, underscoring the committee’s dedication to overseeing all educational and pedagogical matters within Omani schools.

Jamal Ahmed Al-Abri, the Committee Chairman, welcomed the representatives from the ministry, stressing the significance of collaboration with relevant stakeholders to improve the educational landscape in Oman and to address the challenges faced by educational institutions.

The ministry experts delivered a detailed visual presentation outlining the fundamental principles of the curriculum, as well as the policies and regulations that guide the ministry’s operations.

They emphasized the ministry’s initiatives to promote national values and their integration into school curricula. The discussion also included the importance of religious education and cultural excursions in reinforcing national and religious principles among students.

Additionally, the presentation addressed the projects and activities of the Citizenship Directorate, which operates under the Directorate of Curriculum Development. The conversation encompassed the directorate’s administrative framework, foundational pillars, strategic objectives, community partnerships, and future aspirations.

Moreover, the educational initiatives overseen by the Career Guidance and Student Counseling Center were highlighted. A significant portion of the dialogue concentrated on the role of the Directorate for Islamic Education Curriculum Development in instilling moral values and reinforcing citizenship principles among students. The committee reviewed the directorate’s goals, its various departments, and its contributions to the enhancement of Islamic education curricula.

The presentation highlighted the integration of ethical values within the Islamic education curricula at various grade levels. Additionally, the significance of the Career Guidance and Student Counseling Center in managing behavioral issues in schools was underscored.

Experts discussed the use of modern technologies to address negative behaviors and the vital role of social workers in public schools in these initiatives. Committee members considered the observations made by ministry experts regarding emerging negative behavioral trends in schools, along with proposed solutions and the necessary entities for effective collaboration.

Future plans from the ministry to tackle these challenges were also a focal point of the discussion. This meeting reflects the committee’s commitment to working alongside key stakeholders to promote a positive educational atmosphere and confront urgent issues within the educational sector.
