Muscat: Under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Special Representative of His Majesty, the Sultanate of Oman, through the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, in collaboration with the International Science Council (ISC), will host the Muscat Global Knowledge Dialogue and ISC’s Third General Assembly from January 26 to 30, 2025.
Dr. Saif Abdullah Al Haddabi, Undersecretary for Research and Innovation, highlighted the importance of this global gathering, stating: "This significant event will convene 415 scientists, policymakers, funders, and educators from 132 countries, facilitating strategic discussions on the challenges, priorities, and agendas for international scientific collaboration."
Scheduled to take place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Muscat Global Knowledge Dialogue will be a prominent public-facing component of the ISC’s Third General Assembly, centering on interdisciplinary discussions across three main themes:
- Science systems and futures, examining current and future developments in science, including artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies, open science, research evaluation, science publishing, and transdisciplinary science.
- Science and equitable transformations towards sustainability, focusing on the role of science in fostering environmental and societal change.
- Science and society, stressing the importance of trust in science, diplomacy, and issues related to equality and social cohesion.
This two-day event aims to inspire actionable scientific initiatives and enhance collaboration across nations and disciplines, culminating in a declaration that embodies the collective aspirations and commitments of the global scientific community. Hosting this event in Oman underscores the nation’s expanding role as a leader in science diplomacy and its dedication to science-driven strategies in support of the Oman 2040 Vision.
