MUSCAT: The Ambassador of Pakistan to Oman, Mohammed Imran Ali Chaudhry, delivered a poignant tribute to the Pakistani nationals who sacrificed their lives in the noble act of saving others during the harrowing incident at Wadi Kabir on Monday evening.
He underscored their selfless courage, which epitomizes the true essence and valor of the Pakistani populace, deserving the utmost recognition.
In a video message released by the Pakistan Embassy, Ali recounted: "In the highest traditions of our nation, these valiant individuals stepped forward without fear, fully cognizant of the impending peril. They bore bullets to their chests, thereby saving numerous precious lives and ensuring their safety."
During the confrontation, the lives of four Pakistani citizens, one Indian national, and a member of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) were tragically lost. The assailants, who were later identified as brothers by the ROP, were also fatally shot.
Among the four Pakistani heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice was Sulaiman Nawaz from Wazirabad, who exemplified remarkable bravery. "Suleiman ventured into the midst of gunfire to protect others, ultimately losing his life in the process," the ambassador shared, highlighting his act as a testament to valor.
In the face of the attackers who were positioned on a building, four of our compatriots, fully aware of the imminent danger, made a valiant effort to rescue others. Their bravery in the face of certain death merits the highest accolades, whether from Oman or Pakistan, according to Ali.
The tragedy at Wadi Kabir not only witnessed the heroic sacrifices of Pakistani nationals but also the loss of an Indian civilian, Basha Jan Ali Hussain, and an Omani policeman, Yousuf Al Nadabbi. The Omani policeman valiantly attempted to subdue the assailants before succumbing to his injuries.
The ambassador also extended his admiration to the local administration and the Royal Oman Police (ROP) for their commendable efforts.
"He was also among us, our own son. He closed the doors of the mosque. If he had not taken this action, many lives would have been lost," the ambassador shared.
Eyewitness testimonies corroborated the ambassador's high regard for Sulaiman. "Sulaiman endeavored to save an elderly woman and several children situated outside the mosque compound. Amidst the intensifying gunfire, he was struck but continued to guide others to safety among parked vehicles," a witness recalled.
"Even as he struggled for breath, Sulaiman directed the children towards a secure passage into the mosque. Despite suffering multiple gunshot wounds, he remained focused on the task of saving others until he collapsed," the witness added.
He assured that the government of Pakistan and the embassy stand in solidarity with the families of the victims during this period of deep sorrow.
"The valor of our fellow countrymen, in conjunction with the bravery of the Indian civilian and Omani policeman, will be remembered in history. Their sacrifices will be commemorated for generations, and their acts of heroism will be documented in books," the ambassador concluded.
