Muscat: On Monday, the Royal Hospital formally unveiled its Comprehensive Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program, which is overseen by Dr. Ahmed Salim Al Manthari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Planning and Health Organization.
In his keynote statement, the Undersecretary emphasised the strategic and national significance of risk management in the health industry.
He emphasized the significance of full ERM implementation in governance, transparency, healthcare service quality improvement, and leadership's role in creating a risk-aware culture and facilitating data-driven decision making.
He stressed the necessity of connecting the risk management strategy with Oman Vision 2040, which includes the aims of efficiency, sustainability, and quality of life.
He urged for genuine commitment in implementing full ERM through ongoing training sessions in the next phase. According to Dr. Jawaher Mubarak Al Kalbani, Assistant Director General for Medical Support Affairs at the Royal Hospital, the introduction of the ERM program is a critical step toward excellent governance, the greatest quality and safety standards, and modern management.
She stated that the program improves risk forecasting skills and promotes informed strategic decision-making for institutional sustainability and performance effectiveness.
According to Al Kalbani, the program is based on the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) model, but modified to meet national needs. It includes risk categorization across eight important domains and the creation of standardized tools such as FMEA and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs).
She stated that this launch kicks off subsequent implementation stages, which will include demanding training courses and the development of an integrated institutional structure to ensure broad, long-term program application.
Engineer Ali Al Sheidani from the Oman Vision 2040 Office emphasized the program's consistency with Oman Vision 2040 and future plans.
Dr. Suad Al Ismaili, Director of the Royal Hospital's Quality Management and Patient Safety Department, described the eight foundations of the complete ERM plan and the new policy.
The event featured a video presentation highlighting the Royal Hospital's ERM journey.
Notably, the extensive ERM program seeks to develop a risk-aware culture across the organization, improve response capacity to a variety of concerns (clinical, operational, and strategic), and promote risk-analysis-based planning for optimal resource allocation while improving healthcare governance and patient safety.
