Royal Decree Issued On Promulgation Of Media Law

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik issued Royal Decree No. (58/2024) on Sunday, following its presentation to the Council of Oman.

Article (1) declares that the provisions of the Media Law, as contained in this decree, are to be enforced.

Article (2) authorizes the Minister of Information to promulgate the regulations associated with the Media Law, as well as to issue any necessary decisions to implement its provisions. During this period, the existing regulations and decisions will continue to be enforced, without prejudice to the provisions of the Media Law.

Article (3) nullifies Royal Decree No. 49/84 pertaining to the Publications and Publishing Law, Royal Decree No. 65/97 concerning the Law on the Censorship of Artistic Works, and Royal Decree No. 95/2004 related to the Law of Private Radio and Television Establishments. It also nullifies any provisions that are in conflict with the Media Law attached to this decree or that violate its provisions.

Article (4) mandates the publication of this decree in the Official Gazette, with enforcement commencing on the day following its publication.
