Reliance Forges Partnership With NVIDIA To Build Ai Infrastructure In India

Mumbai: At the NVIDIA Summit, held in Mumbai, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and Chairman of Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani have announced a strategic alliance aimed at the development of state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure within India.

This collaboration is designed to propel India towards becoming a leading force in the global AI landscape by capitalizing on the country's extensive talent pool and rapidly expanding digital infrastructure.

In welcoming Huang to Mumbai, Ambani underscored India's distinct advantage, highlighted by its youthful demographic, which is particularly receptive to adopting new technologies. "We are among the few nations where the average age of 1.4 billion people is below 35," he noted.

Ambani further emphasized that India's ambitions, coupled with the forward-thinking leadership of the Indian Prime Minister, have established a foundation for a digital transformation. "We stand at the threshold of a new era of intelligence," he declared.

Huang commended India's swift digitalization and its potential in the AI sector, referring to the country as possessing a unique "natural resource" in the form of IT and computer science expertise.

He stressed the critical role of AI infrastructure as a national asset, drawing parallels to essential infrastructure like roads and energy, which are vital for domestic manufacturing intelligence. "India must not export its data to import its intelligence," he remarked, aligning with Prime Minister Modi's vision of achieving self-reliance in AI.

The partnership between NVIDIA and Reliance Industries is focused on the development of AI infrastructure equipped with NVIDIA's advanced technology, including the NVIDIA GB200 GPUs. Chairman Mukesh Ambani unveiled plans for the establishment of a scalable infrastructure capable of expanding beyond 1 gigawatt, powered by renewable energy sources.

"We are constructing this foundation to scale, and our ambition is to make AI accessible and affordable, without the need for consumers to upgrade their devices," he stated, highlighting the objective of democratizing AI technology.

Ambani also spoke about the broader societal benefits of AI, stating, "AI has the potential to elevate the entire populace." He noted that while programming has traditionally been limited to a select few, AI technology democratizes this access.

Ambani echoed this perspective, envisioning India not merely as a consumer of AI services but as a global provider in the field.

Both leaders expressed confidence in India's potential to make significant contributions to the intelligence sector. "We are confident that India and Indians will achieve remarkable success in the intelligence market," Ambani declared.

Huang concluded, "This is an extraordinary moment, and I am honored and privileged to be part of this endeavor."
