Baku: The pavilion representing the Sultanate of Oman was inaugurated at the 29th Climate Summit in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, amidst the presence of international negotiators.
Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, the Minister of Energy and Minerals, who served as the chief guest at the event, articulated the Sultanate of Oman's unequivocal commitment to all the agreed-upon measures, both in previous summits and at this gathering. He emphasized the Sultanate of Oman's detailed approach towards the energy transition and the mitigation of carbon emissions.
The Minister highlighted a significant point underscored during the dialogue: the necessity of maintaining a constructive relationship between oil and gas producers and advocates of the energy transition. He stressed the importance of recognizing that the world requires access to all available energy sources, with a strong commitment to the utilization of clean energy.
He also mentioned that the issue of funding remains unresolved, and challenges persist, with the most significant being the availability of funding sources, despite the numerous commitments made by various countries.
The Minister of Energy and Minerals noted that the Sultanate of Oman's pavilion at the 29th Climate Summit focuses on the review of the energy transition and the pursuit of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. It showcases the roles and missions of the Environment Authority, as well as the environmental indicators achieved in environmental conservation. Additionally, the pavilion presents climate-related initiatives and projects within the energy sector, including emission reduction, energy transformation, and the main sectors represented by industry, electricity generation, oil and gas, and transportation.
Conversely, Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, described the Sultanate of Oman's participation in the Climate Summit as a success, highlighting the nation's efforts in environmental conservation and the review of carbon emission reduction projects, renewable energy, solar energy, and green hydrogen projects within the Sultanate of Oman.
He further mentioned that the Sultanate of Oman's pavilion hosted a discussion panel, which included Ministers of Environment and Climate Change from Arab and foreign countries across various continents, as well as experts from the United Nations and specialized organizations.
Dr. Al Amri stressed the broad participation from the Sultanate of Oman, with over 200 participants from various state institutions, in endorsing a unified national approach towards achieving national climate targets, with a primary focus on the National Strategy for Zero Neutrality.
The pavilion of the Sultanate of Oman at the 29th Climate Summit highlights renewable and clean energy projects and introduces the public to policies and trends aimed at achieving net-zero carbon emissions.
