Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion has launched a service for mobile laboratories dedicated to testing fuel pumps, aimed at ensuring prompt responses and accurate measurements of both the quantity and type of fuel provided to consumers.
Initially, this mobile laboratory service will be implemented in the governorates of Muscat, Dhofar, and North Al Batinah.
Emad bin Khamis Al Shukaili, Director General of the Directorate General of Specifications and Metrology at the Ministry, stated that this initiative marks the first of its kind in Oman and the second within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. He emphasized the Ministry's commitment to this service, highlighting the importance of regular fuel pump testing to maintain service quality for consumers.
Furthermore, he noted that the Ministry plans to strengthen this service by requiring fuel pump owners to adhere to both local and international standards and specifications.
The mobile laboratories will be outfitted with advanced testing devices and equipment to ensure compliance with the various fuel types offered, including M91, M95, and M98. This initiative is expected to enhance consumer confidence as well as that of fuel pump operators regarding the fuel quality.
The service will be rolled out with three mobile laboratory units that will cover all fuel stations in Muscat, North Al Batinah, and Dhofar, with plans for additional units to serve other governorates in the future.
The fees for periodic fuel pump testing will be among the lowest in the region compared to similar services in other countries, with these charges being applied on an annual basis.
