The recent data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showcases Oman's strong dedication to gender equality and empowerment, with a notable increase in the economic involvement of Omani women.

The NCSI figures present an optimistic outlook on the economic participation of women in Oman.

As per the NCSI's 2023 special report on the labor market, the economic participation rate of Omani women aged 15 and above rose to 32.1 percent in 2022, up from 27.7 percent in the previous year.

Of particular importance is the distribution of the workforce among Omani women.

The report indicates that a remarkable 82 percent of economically active Omani women in 2022 were employed in various fields.

This data emphasizes the crucial role played by Omani women as active contributors to the country's economic development.

Further analysis of the sectoral breakdown reveals a well-balanced representation of Omani women in both the public and private sectors.

In 2022, 95,652 Omani women aged 15 and above were working in the government sector, representing 41 percent of the female workforce, while 136,093 women were actively engaged in the private and civil society sectors, making up 59 percent of the female workforce.

Moreover, the entrepreneurial drive among women in Oman appears to have thrived, as evidenced by the significant number of female business owners, exceeding 14,000, who have made their mark in various sectors including wholesale and retail trade, as well as manufacturing industries.

These statistics highlight the increasing economic empowerment and independence experienced by Omani women. Education remains a fundamental pillar in empowering women in Oman, with more than 208,000 female students enrolled in school education and over 70,000 pursuing higher education.

The declining illiteracy rate reflects the concerted efforts made to ensure equal access to education for women of all age groups.

This fair distribution underscores Oman's commitment to fostering inclusive economic opportunities for women across diverse sectors.
