Omani-Iraqi Joint Committee Holds 9th Meeting In Baghdad

Baghdad: The Omani-Iraqi Joint Committee convened for its ninth meeting today in Baghdad, co-chaired by Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, the Foreign Minister, and Dr. Fuad Hussein, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq.

During his address, Sayyid Badr emphasized that "the relationship between Oman and Iraq is deeply rooted in history, founded on shared visions aimed at fostering prosperity for both nations and the broader region."

He highlighted Oman's commitment to advancing cooperative initiatives across various sectors, including economy, trade, culture, and tourism, to fulfill the aspirations of both countries.

Additionally, Sayyid Badr praised Iraq's proactive role in addressing Arab and regional issues, particularly the Palestinian cause. He underscored the necessity of achieving security and stability in the region through collaborative efforts and constructive dialogue.

In response, Dr. Fuad Hussein acknowledged Oman's significant contributions to raising awareness of Arab and regional matters, as well as its efforts to promote security and stability. He reaffirmed Iraq's dedication to strengthening cooperative ties with Oman.

Dr. Fuad expressed his desire to enhance coordination and collaborative actions that serve the mutual interests of both nations and contribute to the stability and prosperity of the region.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at bolstering political and diplomatic cooperation.

The initial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, focusing on collaboration in political consultation.

The subsequent MoU, which pertains to cooperation in diplomatic studies and training, was executed by the Oman Diplomatic Academy and the Foreign Service Institute of Iraq.

Both parties expressed their commitment to improving coordination among relevant institutions to promote sustainable development and strengthen the ties of fraternity and partnership.

Officials from both nations were present at the signing ceremony.
