Muscat: Due to the increasing temperatures, Indian Schools in Oman have been compelled to adjust their operating hours or transition to online classes. Dr. Sivakumar Manickam, Chairman of the board of Directors of Indian Schools Oman, stated in an interview with the Times of Oman, "We have advised all Indian Schools to modify their schedules or switch to online classes based on their convenience."
Indian School Muscat has informed parents through a circular that, "Due to the extreme weather conditions, the School Management has decided to reschedule the school timings from Tuesday, June 4 to Thursday, June 6, 2024."
The new class timings are as follows: KG I and KG II will be from 8.15 am to 10.30 am, Class I to IV will be from 7.50 am to 10.30 am, Classes V to VIII will be from 7.10 am to 12.00 noon, and Classes IX to XII will be from 7.10 a.m. to 12.00 noon.
Indian School Bausher has also issued a circular to parents stating, "Considering the extreme heat conditions prevailing in Oman and prioritizing the well-being of our students, we are implementing some changes to our academic schedule." The circular further mentioned, "Today, 3rd June 2024, will be the last working day for students from KG to Grade V, and Online Sessions will be conducted for Grades VI and above." The school expressed appreciation for the understanding and cooperation of parents during these challenging weather conditions and wished all students a happy and safe summer vacation.
On Sunday, June 2, 2024, the highest temperature in the Sultanate of Oman was recorded at the Hamra Ad Duru station in Al Dhahirah Governorate, reaching nearly 50 degrees Celsius, as reported by the Oman Meteorology Department.
Based on the information provided by Oman Meteorology, the highest temperature in the last 24 hours was recorded at Hamra Ad Duru station in Al Dhahirah Governorate at 49.3 degrees Celsius. This was followed by Fahud station in Al Wusta Governorate at 49.0 degrees Celsius and Sunaynah station in Al Buraimi Governorate at 48.5 degrees Celsius.
Ibri station in Al Dhahirah Governorate recorded 48.3 degrees Celsius, while Liwa station recorded 48.2 degrees Celsius and Sohar station in North Al Batinah Governorate recorded 48.0 degrees Celsius. Additionally, Barka station in South Al Batinah Governorate registered 47.9 degrees Celsius and Saham station in North Al Batinah Governorate recorded 47.6 degrees Celsius.
