On January 24, 2024, the Sultanate of Oman will commemorate the International Day of Education, joining countries around the world in recognizing the importance of education. The Ministry of Education will represent Oman in this global celebration, highlighting the crucial role of education in achieving sustainable development goals, fostering peace and human rights, combating poverty and hunger, and empowering individuals to resolve conflicts and find solutions.
Under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, the Sultanate of Oman has prioritized the education sector at all levels, emphasizing the need for a supportive and stimulating environment for scientific research and innovation. This commitment stems from the understanding that education is the foundation upon which our children can contribute to shaping the future.
Since its renaissance, Oman has been dedicated to promoting values of tolerance and peace among students. The Ministry of Education continues to uphold this national approach, aligning it with the vision outlined in "Oman Vision 2040." These values are integrated into educational policies and documents such as the Education Philosophy Document, the General Concepts and Curricula Document, and the focus on addressing humanitarian issues and fostering global citizenship.
The Ministry has issued various special documents, including the Citizenship Education Document, the Document for Incorporating Child Rights Concepts into School Curricula, and other policies that support the promotion of peace and tolerance through education.
On 24 January 2024, the sixth International Day of Education will be commemorated under the theme "Education for lasting Peace." This celebration acknowledges the significant role that education plays in attaining peace, development, and the fundamental objectives pursued by UNESCO. Member States recognized education as a crucial catalyst for international peace and understanding through the 1974 United Nations Document on Education for International Understanding, Cooperation and Peace, as well as Education in the Field of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
The observance of this day underscores the vital role of education in addressing global challenges and achieving sustainable development goals. Consequently, governments and international organizations prioritize the establishment of peaceful and progressive societies by emphasizing the significance and indispensable role of education in their construction.
