Oman Takes Part In UNESCO Executive Board Meetings

Paris: The Sultanate of Oman is participating in the 220th session of the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This assembly is scheduled to conclude on October 23, 2024, in Paris.

The delegation from Oman is led by Ambassador Amna Salim Rashid Al Balushi, who serves as the Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to UNESCO.

During her address to the council, Ambassador Al Balushi reiterated the Sultanate of Oman's unwavering dedication to fostering peace, security, and stability globally. She highlighted the importance of advocating for dialogue, tolerance, and the respect for human rights.

Ambassador Al Balushi called upon UNESCO to bolster initiatives aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue and combating hate.

Regarding the organization's budget plan for the fiscal years 2026 to 2029, Ambassador Al Balushi emphasized the critical need to support field offices in their endeavors to effectively cater to the requirements of member states. She also highlighted the pivotal role of education in Oman and its commitment to UNESCO's initiatives in tackling climate change and promoting green education and technical training.

Ambassador Al Balushi advocated for increased funding for UNESCO's activities, with a particular focus on heritage preservation and the support of innovative industries. She also stressed the importance of ensuring financial sustainability and effective risk management within the organization.

The 220th session is attended by representatives from 58 member states, including Oman, whose membership is set to continue until 2027.
