Oman Sees Rise In Industrial Fire Accidents During Summer

Muscat: The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) has reported a surge in fire incidents in industrial facilities during the summer months, primarily due to the soaring temperatures. In 2023, the number of fire accidents reached 45, compared to 41 incidents in 2022.

According to the CDAA's reports, these fires stem from various causes, including non-compliance of certain industrial facilities with civil protection requirements. Consequently, these incidents lead to significant property damage and result in both human and material losses.

To mitigate the risk of fires in industrial facilities, the CDAA emphasizes the importance of adhering to the guidelines issued by the Authority's General Administration of Civil Protection. These guidelines include:

1) Regularly maintaining the facility's alarm and firefighting systems,
2) Following safety protocols during storage,
3) Identifying and addressing any other potential hazards that may jeopardize the safety of the facilities, workers, and visitors,
4) Developing an emergency plan for the facility and providing comprehensive training to workers on its implementation.
