Oman Plans To Enhance Energy, Minerals Contributions To Gdp

Musqat: The Ministry of Energy and Minerals aims to increase the contribution of the energy and mineral sectors to Oman's gross domestic product (GDP) and national income. In an official statement, the ministry highlighted its successful achievements in 2023 and emphasized its commitment to utilizing all available means to enhance production at a lower cost through the adoption of cutting-edge technology.

Engineer Salem bin Nasser Al-Awfi, the Minister of Energy and Minerals, emphasized the ministry's dedication to leveraging its capabilities and resources to promote the development of the energy and minerals sectors. He also highlighted the importance of utilizing advanced technology to support the production of crude oil and oil condensates.

Furthermore, the ministry has continued its efforts in localizing industries in 2023. A chemical manufacturing factory within Oman has obtained the necessary certifications and approvals, meeting the required standards and specifications. This achievement will directly contribute to enhancing local value and reducing operational expenses.

The first drilling rig to be manufactured in Oman, equipped with electronic operation capabilities, has been successfully completed. This state-of-the-art rig was developed using the latest technologies to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable drilling operations.

In line with the government's commitment to supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and their contribution to economic and social development, a significant portion of the spending in the oil and gas sectors has been allocated to SMEs. Approximately 16 percent of the total value of purchases and tenders has been dedicated to these enterprises.

Engineer Salem bin Nasser Al-Awfi highlighted the Al-Ghaisin Mine Copper Mining Project in the Wilayat of Al-Khaboura as one of the noteworthy projects initiated in 2023. This project holds great promise for copper mining and will significantly contribute to economic diversification in the Sultanate of Oman. It utilizes modern and environmentally friendly underground mining techniques, with an estimated reserve of over six million tonnes of copper ore, containing an average concentration of 2.04 percent.

Furthermore, a solar energy station has been inaugurated in the Wilayat of Sur to generate renewable energy for the Sur water desalination plant.

Emphasizing the ministry's commitment to social responsibility, several national projects have received support from different companies, amounting to a total cost of OMR2.5 million. These collaborative efforts aim to make a tangible impact on society.
