Oman Medical Specialty Board Celebrates Graduation Of 144 Doctors

Muscat: On Tuesday, the Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) commemorated the graduation of 144 physicians from its 16th cohort, who completed specialized training programs that spanned four to six academic years, along with one to three years for local fellowships.

The graduation ceremony took place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, with Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the OMSB, serving as the event's sponsor.

The graduates specialized in 21 different medical fields, including three local fellowships in ear medicine and surgery, genetic medicine, and pediatric hematology and oncology. The remaining 18 specializations included tissue diseases, anesthesia, clinical biochemistry, dermatology, emergency medicine, family medicine, general surgery, hematology, internal medicine, microbiology, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology and surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthopedics, ear, nose and throat surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, and radiology.

In her address, Dr. Fatima bint Mohammed Al Ajmi, CEO of the OMSB, remarked, “Your graduation marks the beginning of a new chapter filled with responsibilities, as you now bear the torch of knowledge to enhance the healthcare system in the Sultanate of Oman. You are entering a profession that presents numerous challenges, yet it is also rich with opportunities for service and compassion, so strive to be ambassadors of goodness and knowledge.”

She further emphasized that the Oman Medical Specialty Board stands as a prestigious institution that guides the pursuit of scientific excellence and specialization. The Board's training curriculum is designed to foster development and align with advancements in medical education and training, ensuring that doctors are well-prepared. Within its walls, you have honed your skills and received advanced training in your respective fields, elevating the standard of medical professional performance.

The Council's ongoing success in achieving its objectives and executing its educational and training initiatives underscores its leadership and distinctiveness in the qualification of medical professionals. Since its inception, a total of 1,508 doctors, both male and female, have successfully completed its specialty and fellowship programs. We are on track to finalize the current five-year plan by 2025, and we take pride in the strategic accomplishments that have significantly advanced our programs and improved the quality of our educational outcomes.

Additionally, the Oman Medical Specialty Board is actively involved in the development of the eleventh five-year plan for the health sector, set to be launched at the beginning of 2026. This plan will prioritize the expansion of specialized programs and the integration of technology and artificial intelligence into advanced medical education, aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of clinical training. This approach will ensure the graduation of medical professionals who are well-equipped to meet global advancements.
