Oman, Korea Mark 50th Anniversary Of Establishment Of Diplomatic Ties

Muscat: In collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Muscat, the Foreign Ministry organized a ceremony on Wednesday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During the ceremony, a special slogan was unveiled to symbolize the depth and strength of the diplomatic ties. Sheikh Khalifa Ali Al Harthy, the Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, highlighted the ongoing progress in the partnership between Oman and the Republic of Korea, particularly in the green hydrogen and clean energy sectors.

Al Harthy also mentioned that efforts are being made to simplify visa procedures for Omani citizens wishing to visit the Republic of Korea. The trade exchange between the two countries exceeded $5 billion in 2023, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on enhancing trade and investment was recently signed between the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion of Oman and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea.

In his speech, Kiejoo Kim, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Sultanate of Oman, praised the strong relations between the two countries. He emphasized that the Republic of Korea is the third largest trading partner of Oman, with bilateral trade surpassing $5 billion in 2023. Kim also highlighted the significance of the free trade agreement (FTA) between the Republic of Korea and GCC states, as well as other trade and investment promotion frameworks and agreements between the two sides.

Kim emphasized the significance of Oman Vision 2040 in strengthening collaborative endeavors to enhance cooperation via forward-looking partnerships in renewable energy, environmental technology, and various other sectors.

The initiation of diplomatic ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Korea in 1974 opened doors for collaboration across political, diplomatic, economic, and cultural domains.
