Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has advised against distributing and selling internet services without a license.
According to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), it has initiated field inspection efforts in collaboration with the relevant authorities to confiscate unlawful wireless networks that distribute internet services.
According to Al Moatasem bin Nasser Al Ghazali, Director of the Frequency Monitoring and Inspection Department at the Communications Regulatory Authority, a family member may, in conjunction with a licensed telecommunications firm, distribute and sell internet services to relatives, siblings, and neighbors without a license. This is viewed as an unlawful act. This action severely damages mobile phone service providers and jeopardizes the large investments made in establishing an advanced and dependable telecommunications infrastructure due to the radio interference created by these unlawful networks and their effect on data speed.
According to Article 53 of the Telecommunications Regulatory Law, anybody who creates, helps, or incites the establishment or operation of a telecommunications system without obtaining a license from the Authority shall be punished by imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, a fine not exceeding OMR 50,000, or one of these two penalties. Al Ghazali said.
Al Ghazali stated that we have techniques and technologies for monitoring these illegal networks in collaboration with the operators, using their data centers to track individuals who unlawfully sell this service to nearby homes and enterprises.
