The Sultanate of Oman has expressed its deep concern regarding the increasing proliferation of small arms and light weapons, which poses a significant threat to global peace and security. This issue also contributes to the escalation of armed conflicts and the rise of terrorism and organized crime.

During the United Nations conference, First Secretary Mohammed bin Ali Al Shehhi delivered a speech on behalf of the Sultanate of Oman, highlighting their apprehension. Mohammed bin Ali Al Shehhi is a member of the Sultanate of Oman's permanent delegation to the United Nations in New York.

The Sultanate of Oman has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the action program aimed at preventing, combating, and eliminating the illicit trade of these weapons. However, they emphasize that this effort should be part of a collective international endeavor, where all nations collaborate to achieve common objectives, with the primary focus being the maintenance of security and stability.

Furthermore, the Sultanate of Oman has reviewed the measures and procedures it has implemented to strengthen legal and institutional frameworks in combating the illicit trade of small arms and light weapons. These measures include the enactment, development, and updating of national laws to align with international standards.
