Oman Celebrates GCC Wildlife Day

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Environment Authority (EA), commemorated GCC Wildlife Day today under the theme "Sustainable Marine Wildlife."

Observed annually on December 30, GCC Wildlife Day emphasizes the commitment of GCC nations to biodiversity preservation and aims to raise awareness among citizens and residents regarding the importance of wildlife conservation.

This event also highlights the significance of the Convention on the Conservation of Wildlife and its Natural Habitats, focusing on the protection of ecosystems and endangered species at risk of extinction.

The Environment Authority has undertaken various initiatives, projects, and research studies to assess biodiversity, update relevant legislation, and enhance efforts to mitigate threats to endangered species within Oman.

The EA prioritizes the protection of essential wildlife components and the maintenance of their biodiversity and sustainability. Key actions include the “National Biodiversity Survey Project,” the “Marine Mammal Species Survey Project,” and the “National Campaign to Combat Invasive Birds.”
