Oman And Angola To Enhance Partnership In Economic, Commercial, And Investment Fields

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Angola have shown a keen interest in fostering new avenues of cooperation and strengthening their partnership, particularly in the economic, commercial, and investment domains. This collaboration is set to focus on sectors such as mining, clean energy, technology, tourism, agriculture and food security, as well as transportation, logistics, and port development.

This initiative was highlighted in a joint statement released during the official visit of President João Lourenço of Angola to Oman. The statement noted:

“At the kind invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço of Angola visited the Sultanate of Oman from December 19 to 21, 2024.

During their discussions, His Majesty and the President reviewed the existing bilateral relations and explored opportunities for further development to benefit both nations.

The two leaders expressed their commitment to establishing new cooperation and enhancing their partnership, particularly in the economic, commercial, and investment sectors, with a focus on mining, clean energy, technology, tourism, agriculture and food security, transportation, logistics, and ports.

They agreed to initiate negotiations for a cooperation agreement encompassing economic affairs, science, technology, and culture. Additionally, they plan to sign memorandums of understanding and agreements related to mutual visa exemptions for holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports, political consultations, and agricultural collaboration.

His Majesty the Sultan and the President engaged in discussions regarding regional and international matters of shared concern, reaffirming their commitment to international law and the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter. They highlighted the significance of collaboration within international organizations to foster peace and security, while both leaders underscored the urgency of enhancing efforts to tackle climate change challenges.

The two parties convened to explore avenues for trade development, facilitate visits by commercial and investment delegations, and promote the establishment of collaborative projects.

His Majesty praised President Lourenço for his dedication to achieving lasting peace in the Eastern DRC and extended his best wishes for his upcoming role as Chair of the African Union in February 2025. The President of Angola acknowledged the astute leadership and foreign policy of His Majesty the Sultan, which is grounded in dialogue and the advancement of peace and harmony for all.

The President of the Republic of Angola conveyed his heartfelt gratitude for the warm reception and generous hospitality afforded to him and his delegation.
