Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) underscored the critical necessity of organizing the Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit in response to the escalating tensions in the occupied Palestinian territories and the persistent aggression from Israel, which encompasses siege, destruction, and displacement.
During the preparatory ministerial meeting for the Summit, OIC Secretary-General Hissein Taha issued a warning regarding the severe repercussions of the Israeli occupation's actions against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). He highlighted the agency's essential role in providing basic services to Palestinian refugees and its representation of the international community's commitment and responsibility towards the Palestinian cause.
He stressed that the ongoing violations of the Israeli occupation pose a threat to regional peace and stability, emphasizing the urgency to intensify international and individual efforts to halt the injustices against the Palestinian people and to prevent the occupation from further expanding and destabilizing the region.
The OIC Secretary-General advocated for supporting the implementation of the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the illegality of the occupation and for the acceleration of the achievement of the two-state solution.
Arab and Muslim leaders are scheduled to convene the Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, later today to address the unprecedented crises unfolding in the Gaza Strip, the occupied Palestinian territories, and Lebanon, amidst the ongoing Israeli aggression and the need for de-escalation efforts in the face of rising tensions in the region.
