Official Omani Delegation Visits Algeria

Algiers: An official delegation from Oman, led by Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, Chairman of the Oman Investment Authority (OIA), commenced its visit to Algeria on Tuesday.

The delegation features Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, along with several CEOs from OIA-affiliated companies.

This two-day visit is focused on enhancing economic and investment collaboration between the Sultanate of Oman and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria. Discussions will center on potential cooperation in various economic and investment sectors.

Abdulsalam Al Murshidi, Chairman of the OIA, emphasized that the visit is intended to strengthen the existing relations between Oman and Algeria, linking political, diplomatic, and public interactions with shared economic interests.

He highlighted the commitment to developing joint investment initiatives in key sectors, particularly in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and livestock, as well as areas related to food security. He also mentioned the potential for increased collaboration in logistics and financial services.

Al Murshidi noted that Omani investments in Algeria have already commenced through the private sector, with the government sector set to play a role in 2025 by advancing various economic projects that will bolster cooperation between the two nations.

During the meetings, Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi engaged with the Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries to discuss strategies for strengthening their strategic partnership in food security initiatives.

The discussion also encompassed the activation of the memoranda of understanding established between the two nations, aimed at fostering shared interests and improving collaboration in the agricultural, fisheries, and rural development sectors.

Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, the Minister of Health, held a meeting with his Algerian counterpart. They explored various avenues for cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry, including the exchange of expertise, governance between public and private sectors, and the prioritization of domestically produced goods in government contracts.

This visit reflects the commitment of both countries' leadership to enhance bilateral relations across multiple domains, contributing to sustainable development and increasing mutual investments between the Sultanate of Oman and Algeria. Additionally, it serves to advance discussions on governmental and investment cooperation in areas such as desert agriculture, pharmaceutical industries, and other promising investment opportunities that were highlighted during the Algerian President's visit to Oman in October 2024.
