National Program For Identifying Gifted Students Begins In North Al Batinah

Sohar - Today marks the beginning of the first phase of the fourth edition of the National Program for Identifying Gifted Students, known as "Tharwa 4," in the North Al Batinah Governorate.

According to Hamad Saif Al Maamari, who serves as the Director of the Department of Special Education and Continuous Education at the Directorate General of Education in North Al Batinah, the initial phase of this program will involve 31 schools within the governorate, focusing on around 1,974 students of both genders. The execution of this phase will persist until 8 May 2025.

He elaborated that the objective of the program is to identify students who exhibit advanced cognitive abilities associated with creativity and innovation through the evaluation of their intelligence and creative potential. This evaluation will inform the requirements of gifted students and aid in the creation of specialized enrichment programs intended to foster their development both in school and beyond. The initiative is in line with international trends that underscore the significance of nurturing gifted students, optimizing their talents, and establishing a comprehensive, up-to-date digital database to monitor their progress, categorize their achievements, and document their contributions.

Al Maamari also pointed out that the methods used for identification and selection adhere to well-defined, systematic criteria that rely on standardized assessments and tests. These evaluation tools are designed to gauge students' abilities in academic, skill-oriented, and creative areas, ensuring that the outcomes are both accurate and reflective of their capabilities. This strategy plays a vital role in offering integrated support and development for gifted students.
