National Museum Marks Historic Relations Between Oman-Somalia

The National Museum in Muscat hosted a cultural event on Monday to commemorate the longstanding relations between Oman and Somalia. The event featured a series of academic papers, with the first one titled ‘Historical Relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Federal Republic of Somalia’ presented by Sayyid Abdul Wahab bin Suleiman Al Busaidi, an expert in Omani-Somali relations.

This paper explored the similarities between Oman and Somalia, emphasizing their strategic geographical locations and referencing historical sources that chronicle their interactions. Furthermore, it delved into the current trade ties between the two nations.

Another paper discussed the importance of trade relations between Oman and Somalia, presented by Counsellor Bashir Sheikh Mahboub, Acting Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia. This paper highlighted the positive advancements made by the Somali government in politics, economics, and security, as well as the significance of Somalia's participation in the East African Community, the largest trading bloc in the region.

Moreover, the paper underscored the crucial role of East African ports in facilitating bilateral trade between East Africa and Oman, thereby fostering economic development. It also included statistical data illustrating the trade dynamics between the two countries.
