Muscat: Last Wednesday, Muscat Municipality marked the inauguration of the Green Walkway project in South Al Maabelah, located in the Wilayat of Seeb.
The ceremony was held under the auspices of His Excellency Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, and was graced by the presence of His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Hamidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, along with Mr. Stephen L. Lover, President and General Manager of Occidental Oman, and various officials from both public and private sectors.
Covering an area exceeding 152,000 square meters, this initiative has been developed in partnership with Occidental Oman as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts. The project encompasses a variety of integrated facilities designed to meet diverse community needs.
Key features include a dedicated sports walkway and a bicycle track, each measuring 3,400 meters, complemented by pedestrian overpasses to facilitate smooth movement.
Moreover, the site offers designated play areas for children, fitness equipment, multipurpose sports courts, and a skateboarding zone, making it a perfect spot for families and individuals looking for a well-rounded recreational experience.
The project also boasts extensive green spaces, modern lighting, restaurants, cafes, rest areas, and specific zones for food trucks.
Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Hamidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, commented on the project launch: “This initiative exemplifies the Muscat Governorate's dedication, through Muscat Municipality, to delivering sustainable facilities that improve the quality of life and align with the governorate's development goals. The Green Walkway project is a significant enhancement to Muscat’s urban landscape, catering to a diverse population by integrating sustainability, recreation, and public health. It enriches the area's aesthetic appeal while fostering an environment conducive to sports and leisure activities, consistent with contemporary urban planning principles. We also acknowledge the private sector's vital role in supporting community-beneficial developmental initiatives.”
