New York: Former World No.1 tennis player Novak Djokovic took to his social media account to share his reflections on participating in the ongoing US Open 2025 tennis tournament, currently being held at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
Expressing his gratitude towards the audience at the US Open 2025, Djokovic posted on Instagram, "Back under Ashe lights. First time Sunday start for me. The crowd is electric and loud as always. New York, you never disappoint. Thank you for the support. Idemo."
On Sunday evening, Djokovic achieved a straightforward victory over local player Learner Tien, winning in three consecutive sets: 6-1, 7-6, 6-2. His upcoming match in the tournament will be against American player Zachary Svajda.
Reflecting on his first-round match against Tien, Djokovic completed the first set in a mere 24 minutes, losing only one game and making just four unforced errors.
In the second set, the American player put up a fight against the Serbian but ultimately lost it 6-7. During this set, Djokovic's unforced errors increased significantly, being five times higher than in the first set.
In the third set, Djokovic reduced his unforced errors and secured a comfortable win over his opponent, taking the third set 6-2.
"It's a good thing I have two days off now. However, [my physical lapse was] a slight concern. I don't know. I don't have any injuries or anything. I just found it challenging to stay in long rallies and recover after points," Djokovic remarked after his victory.
"There was quite a bit of tension on the court, playing against a young American during the night session. For me, I hadn't played an official match in six weeks. I needed to bring my A-game, which I believe I did in the first set. Particularly in the second set, it was about surviving on the court. But in crucial moments, I managed to put one more ball in the court than he did. I think it was beneficial to experience that, in a way, to officially break the ice in the tournament. I'm looking forward to the next challenge," he concluded.
