Muscat: The Muscat Municipality has revealed that the contract for executing the Commercial District Development Project in Ruwi has been awarded. This initiative is part of the Muscat Governorate's plan to enhance commercial areas.
Key features of the project will include the expansion of green spaces, the creation of seating arrangements and additional parking areas to facilitate smooth traffic, the development of pedestrian pathways, the integration of advanced technologies, and the establishment of various amenities. This project is in harmony with the Muscat Municipality’s goals of enriching the urban environment, elevating the quality of urban life, and fostering a thoughtful, sustainable city that caters to all community members.
Covering an estimated 360,000 square meters, the project is set to be completed over a period of 16 months. It will encompass landscaping and green areas on approximately 6,500 square meters, shaded seating and additional seating zones, as well as the addition of 2,458 new parking spots to enhance traffic flow. Furthermore, pedestrian paths will span about 101,806 square meters, and there will be the installation of smart infrastructure alongside the construction of service kiosks and modern restroom facilities—these efforts aim to bolster economic activity and commercial vibrancy while enriching the urban experience for both locals and visitors.
In response to the announcement, His Excellency Ahmed Mohammed Al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, remarked:
“The Muscat Governorate is currently undergoing a series of significant development projects that reinforce its economic and tourism stature, fostering growth that reflects its definitive vision. The Ruwi Commercial District Development Project is integral to Muscat Governorate’s objective of enhancing commercial zones in accordance with the highest established standards. These initiatives are in alignment with the Greater Muscat Structural Plan, a vital element of the National Urban Development Strategy as part of Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on balancing economic advancement with improved living standards, and crafting an integrated, sustainable urban framework that satisfies both present and future requirements. ”
The Ruwi Commercial District Development Project signifies an important milestone in the Muscat Municipality's ambition to transform business centers into lively, sustainable hubs that align with Muscat Governorate's developmental objectives.
