MoCIIP Launches Program To Train University Students On Developing Industrial Product Standards

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion is in the process of launching a comprehensive training program designed specifically for university students in their final year of studies. This initiative is aimed at equipping these students with essential skills required for the development of industrial product standards, enhancing their research and study abilities, and fostering the formation and management of technical teams within this domain.

The program will introduce students to international best practices in standard development and industrial establishment management. It will also shed light on the functions of regional and international standardization organizations and their pivotal role in the industrial sector's development. Furthermore, participants will gain the capability to draft standards for industrial products and understand the fundamentals of establishing technical specifications that ensure user safety and environmental protection.

Nadia bint Mohammed Al-Siyabi, a chemical expert serving at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, has underscored the significance of this program as a part of the Ministry's strategy to harness the potential of graduating students and prepare them for the workforce. She emphasized the program's objective to heighten students' awareness regarding the criticality of standards. Al-Siyabi outlined that the curriculum will encompass various critical areas, including the concepts of basic standards, the functions of regional and international standards organizations, and the interplay between the World Trade Organization (WTO) and standards.

Al-Siyabi highlighted the program's critical role in preparing students for the job market. She pointed out that students are viewed as strategic economic assets for a nation, particularly in societies that depend on trade and investment. She noted that by equipping students with the requisite knowledge, skills, and experiences, along with international best practices in standardization prior to graduation, the program not only opens up employment opportunities for them but also encourages their active involvement in the development and adoption of international standards and environmentally and socially sustainable solutions.
