Ministry Of Higher Education, Research And Innovation Launches ‘SHE Stems’ Programme For Women

Muscat: On Wednesday, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and Oman Cables Industry SAOG came together to sign a collaboration agreement, marking the beginning of the third installment of the 'SHE STEMS' social development initiative.

This partnership was sealed by Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, and Erkan Aydogdu, the CEO of Oman Cables Industry.

The purpose of this agreement is to foster a brighter and more sustainable future by enhancing the role of Omani women in the domains of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and industry. It also aims to strengthen strategic alliances in the sectors of education and vocational skills development.

Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al-Mahrouqi, the Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, expressed, “The collaboration with Oman Cables Industry for the third edition of the SHE STEMS program is a significant step towards building a future where innovation transcends limits. Our joint efforts equip Omani women with the necessary skills to thrive in STEM areas, in line with Oman’s Vision 2040. The SHE STEMS initiative underscores our continuous dedication to fostering a diverse and robust economy, promoting technological progress, innovation, and equal opportunities.”

Applicants must go through thorough pre-selection evaluations in English and Mathematics to ensure they are prepared for the challenges ahead.

Eligible participants will receive a monthly stipend from Oman Cables Industry and will have access to training and mentorship from the Modern Gulf Institute (MGI), a premier institution in leadership and management development.

The initiative is accessible to Omani women aged 24-30 who are currently unemployed but possess a bachelor's degree in engineering and are ready to take part in English and Mathematics pre-selection tests. OCI is maintaining its collaboration with a recruitment consulting firm to support recent graduates in securing employment and enhancing their interpersonal skills, ensuring a smooth entry into the job market.

Erkan Aydogdu, the CEO of Oman Cables Industry, mentioned: “We are delighted to announce the launch of the third installment of the SHE STEMS program, showcasing our dedication to empowering Omani women in the critical sectors of industry. With more than 2,000 applications received, it's evident that Omani women are keen to enter the manufacturing sector. In the upcoming 2024 program, we plan to introduce a specialized module on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to build a strong foundation and utilize its potential for achieving professional aspirations.”

“This version will equip participants with the latest knowledge in AI technologies, enabling them to delve into this swiftly evolving area. This demonstrates our commitment to preparing our graduates for both established industries and emerging technologies. The initiative highlights our societal goals and our deep conviction that Omani women and future generations will play a crucial role in the development of the country,” Aydogdu concluded.
