Ministry Of Education Addresses Concerns Over Exam Pass Rates

Muscat: The Omani Ministry of Education and Social Communication has released a statement to address recent discussions on social media concerning the "percentage of students passing in the first semester." The ministry wants to clarify that the phrase "passing percentage in the first semester" is not an official statistic and should not be mistaken for the final academic year results, which reflect cumulative performance over the entire year.

For the 2024/2025 academic year, the preliminary data indicates a pass rate of approximately 80.76% for the first semester. The ministry noted that this figure aligns closely with the first-semester results from the past three academic years, which were recorded at 80.85%, 80.78%, and 80.24%, respectively. Consequently, the percentage of students who did not meet the passing grade of 50% this semester is within the expected range for grade distribution. Additionally, the data shows that a considerable number of students achieved high marks, with 20,269 students scoring between 80% and 99.88%, and 8,660 students scoring between 90% and 99.88%.

The ministry emphasized that these results are in line with those from previous semesters and fall within anticipated parameters. They remain dedicated to enhancing student performance through ongoing curriculum enhancements, teacher training initiatives, and the execution of various educational programs and projects.
