Ministry Awards Seven Vital Projects In The Roads Sector

Muscat: In collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the General Secretariat of the Tender Board has announced the allocation of seven critical projects, valued at over OMR119 million.

These projects encompass the construction of five bridges along the dual road (Sohar-Al Buraimi), the development of the dual road (Izki-Nizwa), the completion of the road (Al-Ubaila-Al-Fayyadh), the establishment of the dual road (Raysut-Al-Maghsail), the enhancement of the Saih Qatna road's efficiency, the design and implementation of the Aqbat Afari road and Al-Saqari road, and the creation of the Saih Al-Khairat / Al-Shasr road.

These initiatives are part of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology's plans to upgrade the road network system within the Sultanate, aiming to improve its quality to ensure high traffic safety. Furthermore, these projects are designed to enhance tourism, commerce, and social mobility across various governorates.

Five Bridges Project

The Ministry has been awarded the project for the construction of five bridges on the Sohar-Buraimi dual carriageway. This project, with a total cost of OMR 6 million, involves the reconstruction of five bridges on the existing Sohar-Buraimi road, with the primary objectives of ensuring the safety of road users and maintaining the efficiency of the road network to facilitate economic activities in the region.

The project also includes the installation of iron and concrete barriers and the application of ground paints in accordance with the specifications outlined in the 2017 edition of the Omani Road Design Guide. The implementation period for this project is set at 18 months, with an additional 45 days allocated for preparatory work.

Izki-Nizwa Dual Carriageway Project

In alignment with the Ministry's objectives to enhance road quality, bolster tourism, alleviate traffic congestion, and optimize traffic flow on principal highways, the Izki-Nizwa Dual Carriageway Project has been recognized with a total expenditure of 46.8 million Omani riyals, spanning a length of 32 kilometers.

This initiative commences at the southern Qarout roundabout within the Wilayat of Izki, traverses through Birkat Al-Mouz, and concludes at the Lulu roundabout in the Farq district of the Wilayat of Nizwa.

The scope of the project also encompasses the installation of traffic lights to ensure the smooth progression of traffic and the reduction of congestion. Furthermore, it includes the establishment of 10 roundabouts at various project locations, designed to facilitate the movement of road users on both sides of the track. Additionally, the project will see the construction of several pedestrian and vehicular tunnels in commercial and densely populated areas.

Al-Ubaila-Al-Fayyadh Project

The Ministry has also undertaken the task of completing the construction of the Al-Ubaila-Al-Fayyadh Road within the Al-Buraimi Governorate. This project involves the finalization of remaining construction works on the Al-Ubaila -Al-Fayyadh Road, which stretches approximately 40 kilometers, starting from the main road of Sohar -Al-Buraimi to Al-Fayyadh in Al-Buraimi Governorate. The total cost of this project is OMR19.4 million, with an implementation period of 24 months, in addition to a 30-day preparation phase.

The road is structured to accommodate two lanes, each with a width of 3.65 meters, asphalt shoulders measuring 2.5 meters on each side, and dirt shoulders of 1 meter on each side. It also features box culverts and two bridges, all aimed at ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow under various weather conditions.

The design of the road adheres to the standards outlined in the Road Design Manual 2017, guaranteeing compliance with traffic safety requirements, including concrete and metal barriers, guidance signs, and the application of ground and warning paints.

This road is strategically designed to enhance traffic flow, strengthen social connections, and stimulate economic and tourism activities.

Raysut-Al Mughsail Road Project

In an effort to enhance connectivity among tourist destinations within the Dhofar Governorate, the Ministry has sanctioned the Raysut-Al Mughsail Road Project. This initiative, with a total budget of OMR34.8 million, is set to be completed over a span of 30 months and will extend for a length of 33 kilometers.

The scope of this project encompasses the construction of six primary facilities, including bridges, overpasses, underpasses, and animal crossings. Furthermore, it will incorporate the necessary measures to ensure the road's safety and security for its users.

Saih Qatna Project

The Ministry has approved the completion of the Saih Qatna Project within the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, with a total budget of OMR4.5 million. This project involves the enhancement of the existing road network, which spans 9.200 kilometers, starting from the main road in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar and traversing through mountainous terrains to the Riyadh Farm.

The upgraded road will feature two lanes, each with a width of 3.5 meters, asphalt shoulders measuring 1.5 meters on each side, and cement shoulders measuring 1 meter on each side. The construction will adhere to the approved standard specifications.
